Location & access
Despite its location in the wilderness of central Hwange within an unbroken wildlife ecosystem that covers more than 500 000km² (about the size of California and Kentucky combined; or around the size of Spain), Muddy Teak is surprisingly easily accessible by either road or air from Zimbabwe’s tourism capital of Victoria Falls. The most convenient and time-efficient.
access to camp is by scheduled light aircraft flight from Victoria Falls to our private Shumba Airfield just 15 minutes’ drive from camp. Shumba Airfield is only 100km from Victoria Falls with the 20-25 minute flight meaning Camp Hwange is seamlessly combinable with a stay at this natural wonder of the world.

Facilities
With each of the four guest tents as well as the main area raised up onto low decks (1.4m) but connected to each other and to the main area by sandy paths, the camp benefits from being nestled beneath the tree canopy (and catching the breeze) and having raised views towards the waterhole, but at the same time is grounded and is unquestionably part of its environment.
The casual and homely lounge and dining area is set back in the shade of overhanging teak and ordeal trees, offering a cooling retreat during the day and an intimate gathering space for meals. Flowing out onto expansive decking creatively adapted to the existing trees, the main area is the hub of camp and intimately integrated into the pool and fire pit.
Experiences
Muddy Teak was born from a desire to break the mould and the shackles of what – in many safari camps – can be quite staid safari schedules. We wanted a camp where our guests could set their own schedule and where spontaneous and impromptu activities were the norm rather than the exception. If the lions are roaring nearby during dinner, or a jackal alarm call gives away the presence of a leopard on the prowl, we want the freedom to be able to drop the cutlery and let the food get cold while we plunge into the night to watch things unfold. Equally, there is much to be said for a slower pace altogether … one that adapts to the natural rhythm of the teak woodland in which the camp is set. Like Camp Hwange, there is an emphasis on the quality of guides here at Muddy Teak and we pride ourselves on a high standard, one that is equally adept at providing a vehicle-based safari as one on foot or settled securely in a logpile hide near a waterhole. Our guides will reveal and interpret the natural world here at your pace and at your level.
Rates
Our rates are fully inclusive (accommodation, meals, drinks and activities) and quoted in US Dollars on a per person per night sharing basis. We do charge a single supplement.
